Name recognition is a way of getting baby ready for water going over their face or under water swims, we are asking permission to put water over their face and is another way of saying are you ready to go under the water.

Firstly, we say their name (this is to get their attention)

We then say ready (this is asking them a question) are you ready?

Go! (Water is coming,) only pour water over their face after the word go.

Over time baby will learn that when we say their name, ready go that water is coming and baby will learn to word associate this phrase with holding their breath.
